Cooperative Teacher Education Program, 1972-1975. Title III Project. Summative Report.
Drummond, Robert J.; Littlefield, Maurice
This program was designed to change education by changing the learning process in the training of future teachers. The goals of the project were: (1) to bring about change in the method of preparing teachers by the involvement of teacher trainees completely in the learning process through their participation during the academic year in public school classrooms so that the trainees may blend educational theory with practice; (2) to bring about an exchange of ideas and knowledge between the public school practitioner and the university instructor; (3) to individualize the learning situation for pupils in the public school classrooms through the presence of the trainees; (4) to utilize the resources of the university by the public schools by having the university directly involved in a cooperative project; (5) to break the cycle of passive learning by enabling the trainees to teach as they have learned. This report includes an analysis of the attitudes of both the student teacher interns and the pupils toward the program. The evaluation of the program by cooperating staff members, interns, and college personnel is included. The results and effectiveness of the program are included with recommendations for future projects of a similar nature. (JD)
