This document provides information concerning response patterns on selected exercises used by the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Project of the Education Commission of the States in a 1972-1973 national survey of American attitudes and knowledge of science. Four age groups (9-year-olds, 13-year-olds, 17-year-olds, and adults) are included. Data are partitioned according to geographic region, sex, race, amount of parental education, and size and type of community. The exercise documentation includes copies of many of the exercises, cross-reference identification numbers, the objectives measured by an exercise, timing information, and descriptions of exercises by format, scoring requirements, and administration mode.
