Non-Continuing Survey Responses of Non-Enrolled Students Registered at other Institutions: Spring 1976, Fall 1976, Spring 1977. Student Flow Project, Report 26.
Hawaii Univ., Honolulu. Community Coll. System.
This report examines responses to a Non-Continuing Survey of fall 1975 entering students at Hawaii community colleges who were not enrolled at their campus of entry during spring 1977, but who were enrolled at other institutions. Findings are compared to those of similar surveys of members of the same entering cohort who enrolled in other institutions during spring and fall of 1976. Characteristics examined included sex, age, entry status, campus of entry, major program, grade point average, and current institution of enrollment. Significant differences were found for type of current institution on the variables of age, campus, and grade point average for two of the groups. Additional findings of the study showed: (1) at least three-fourths of the students in each group were full-time students in the semester prior to enrollment in another institution; (2) at least five in six had educational plans for the semester following that of their initial transfer; and (3) students in each of the three groups gave the highest average ratings regarding their college experience to instruction and faculty/student relations while lowest ratings were given to course availability, counseling services, and intellectual environment. Tabular data are presented throughout the report by selected characteristics, by type of institution attended at the time of the study, and by semester of initial campus exit. (JDS)
