Report of the Distribution of Financial Assistance to Students in Florida's Community Colleges.

Eleven tables of data concerning the distribution of financial aid funds to students attending Florida public community colleges comprise the bulk of this report. A total of $30,471,818 was distributed in 1975-76 to 49,518 students in 69,494 grant, loan, scholarship, or student employment awards. Grants, primarily from federal sources, accounted for 57% of aid dollars, loans requiring repayment accounted for 21%, and 20% were awarded for student employment. Blacks, who made up 12% of community college enrollments, comprised 37% of aid recipients, received 39% of the total number of awards, and received 41% of total aid dollars. The amount per grant award was higher for blacks ($525) than for whites ($360), while the amount per loan award was higher for whites ($516) than for blacks ($274). Whites received 80% of the scholarships. Overall, the average amount received by blacks was higher for any other group except Asians. Female recipients outnumbered males in every category except loans; they comprised 52% of aid recipients and received 59% of total aid dollars.
