This manual was written for students and blood donor recruiters interested in starting a campus blood program or in improving an already existing blood program. Contents include discussions of the reasons for blood programs, goals, elements of successful programs, organization of student committees, and comprehensive planning for annual campus and dormitory drives (including specific suggestions for scheduling and other arrangements to be made). Appendixes supply a bibliography, notes on policy issues, eligibility guidelines, tips on recruiting and informing donors, results of a motivation study, a checklist for inspecting potential bloodmobile sites, a list of needed statistics, sample publicity usages, and a sample volunteer manual.
