Policy Issues Related to Research on Instructional Time.

The implications of preliminary information about the relationships between allocated and engaged time and student achievement are discussed in terms of effects on teacher preparation programs. In addition, those who fund education at the state and local levels may be interested in the findings. The data have implications for testing students, evaluating teachers, and ensuring equality of instructional opportunity for students across a variety of classrooms. The importance of stating policy questions in ways that allow research to help in making policy decisions is noted. (Author/JG)
