Performing Arts Research: A Guide to Information Sources.
Whalon, Marion K.
Information about producing, directing, and acting in the theatre frequently goes unrecorded, except in such ephemera as posters, programs, and ticket stubs. The purpose of this volume is to provide direction for those individuals who are seeking information concerning various aspects of the performing arts: dance, visual arts, music, drama, aesthetics, literature, costume, and so on. Part one lists guides or bibliographic reference works which are intended to present a basic or comprehensive view of a field of knowledge. (Guides to theatre, broadly defined, include discussion of motion pictures, radio, and television.) Part two provides listings of dictionaries, encyclopedias, and handbooks. Five other sections cite directories; play indexes; sources for reviews of plays and motion pictures; bibliographies, indexes, and abstracts; and illustrative and audiovisual sources. An author and subject index complete the volume. (KS)
