Project emphasis during the 1975-76 school year is described in this evaluation report was on implementation, operation, and study of the Far West Laboratory Experience-Based Career Education (FWL-EBCE) program at sites under the control of the respective local education agencies. Three emerging programs designated as pilots for the FWL-EBCE model are described: Highland High School EBCE (Salt Lake City, Utah); Pacific Horizons High School (Stockton, California); and Edison High School EBCE (Fresno, California). The 3-part evaluation conducted at the pilot sites is outlined: Study of the implementation process, assessment of student outcomes, and formative feedback to local staff. Evaluation results reported focus on the implementation and characteristics of the three pilot programs including discussion of program ratings; student, parent, and resource data; student-resource interaction; information for program improvement; and students' participation in career-oriented activities. In addition to information from pilot sites, data on students (demography, plans for school and work, attitude toward school) are reported on other FWL-EBCE sites: The Far West High School demonstration site in Oakland, California, and two small market-demand sites, Canyon High School EBCE in Saugus, California, and Maynard Evans High School Community-Based Career Education in Orlando, Florida. Followup information is reported from graduates of the Far West School in Oakland. Overall conclusions are discussed concerning program features, program implementation, program outcomes, and student outcomes. (TA)
