Exploring Manufacturing Occupations. Instructor's Guide. The Manufacturing Cluster.
Fairleigh Dickinson Univ., Rutherford, NJ.; New Jersey State Dept. of Education, Trenton. Div. of Vocational Education.
The major focus of this guide and its accompanying student manual (CE 010 397) is to help the student understand the manufacturing enterprise. (The guide and student manual are part of a manufacturing cluster series which addresses itself to career awareness, orientation, exploration, and preparation.) Seven sections are included. An overview of career education and manufacturing history is presented in the first two sections along with a discussion of the structure of manufacturing, which is systems oriented in order to show interrelationships and to promote understanding of it in three highest common denominators--functions, processes, and products. Sections 3 and 4 describe the generalized program development paradigms and includes both instructional and curriculum development models. Guidelines and a description of an exploration program in manufacturing occupations using the food and kindred products industry as an example are presented in sections 5 and 6. The last section contains the following 20 program product categories, with each containing selected activities and experiences and sources of information related to function: Ordnance and Accessories; Tobacco Manufacturers; Textile Mill Products; Apparel and Other Finished Fabric Products; Lumber and Wood Products; Furniture and Fixtures; Paper and Allied Industries; Printing, Publishing, and Allied Industries; Chemicals and Allied Products; Petroleum Refining and Related Industries; Rubber and Miscellaneous Plastics; Leather and Leather Products; Primary Metal Industries; Fabricated Metal Products, Machinery and Transportation Equipment; Machinery, Except Electrical Equipment; Electrical Machinery, Equipment and Supplies; Transportation Equipment; and Professional, Scientific, and Control Instruments.
