Radio and television broadcasting is authorized and regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Following a brief description of the development of broadcasting, broadcast regulations, and the Commission, this report examines various aspects of the subject pertaining to the fairness doctrine, political broadcasting, advertising, sale of time, station management, broadcast industry's self-regulation, monopoly, broadcast receivers, call letters, and national defense. Also included are the history, technological development, current capabilities, and services of AM (amplitude modulation), FM (frequency modulation) and television broadcasting; educational, international and experimental broadcasting; broadcast relay by satellite; and auxiliary broadcast service.
