A Short Reference Grammar of Gulf Arabic.
Qafisheh, Hamdi A.
This work seeks to fill important gaps existing in the study of Peninsular Arabic, especially that of the United Arab Emirates. It presents an explicit outline of the structure of Gulf Arabic, based on the dialect of Abu Dhabi. It is intended for students and teachers of Gulf Arabic, for linguists and dialectologists, and for other individuals who may have linguistic and communicative interests in the Arabian Gulf area. Sections one, two, and three describe the phonology, morphology, and syntax, respectively, of Gulf Arabic. Section four contains five texts relating to daily life, with English translations. Appendices contain information about phonological variation between Literary Arabic and Gulf Arabic. (Author/AM)
