MLA Survey Fall 1974. Directory, Part B: Four-Year Colleges and Universities.
Modern Language Association of America, New York, NY.
The statistical data provided here were collected for the survey of foreign language registrations in institutions of higher education, fall 1974. The data were keypunched in 1975, and for this reason each page of the printout bears the heading "Language Survey 1975." However, all figures refer to language registrations reported for the fall semester 1974. The figures are presented by state, and within states, by institution. Each entry consists of a two-digit code number representing the state in which the institution is located; a two-letter abbreviation of the name of the state; the name of the institution; the name of each given language; the number of undergraduate registrations; and the number of graduate registrations, if any. After all of the languages taught at an institution have been listed, its total number of undergraduate and graduate language registrations is given, opposite a line of ten asterisks. Following the complete list of institutions in a state, a summary of language registrations in that state is printed, and the number of institutions appears on the same line, opposite the abbreviation "Inst."
