The People's English.
Hamilton, James E.
Concerned with college students' written composition and their understanding of English grammar, usage, and mechanics, this book is based on the beliefs that society is clearly class structured, that representatives of all classes attend various kinds of colleges, that society is responsible for each of these students, and that this obligation requires multiple teaching and learning techniques--especially in English composition, which can offer opportunities for individualized instruction and independent study. About one-third of the book discusses class structure and solutions to rhetorical problems, while two-thirds of the book focuses on grammar, style, usage, spelling, mechanics, and composition for each of six social classes. Material is arranged in order of increasing difficulty. (JM)
