The Reading Corner: Ideas, Games, and Activities for Individualizing Reading.
Forgan, Harry W.
The ideas provided in this book may be used in different types of reading programs, ranging from completely individualized programs to those that follow group organization. The first chapter presents a step-by-step plan for individualizing reading instruction, while the other chapters focus on broad skill areas--prereading skills, word recognition, comprehension, and functional reading skills. Within each broad area, detailed descriptions of eight specific skills are given, along with diagnostic devices to determine students' needs, ideas for introducing each skill in a teacher-directed activity, and learning-center activities to help children practice each skill independently. An appendix contains ready-to-duplicate skill tests, learning-center activity sheets, letters to parents, record-keeping forms, and other time-saving devices. (JM)
