This book reports and discusses the findings of a study of suburban newspapers as a third force in the press, different from the other two forces--metropolitan daily newspapers and small-town and weekly newspapers. Chapters explore various aspects of suburban newspapers, including a history of suburbia, publisher attitudes toward the suburban press, attitudes of metropolitan daily papers toward the suburban press, the suburban press as an investigative organ, advertising perspectives, career opportunities, circulation, and other peculiarities.
