This book describes--with examples--the nature, uses, and potential of the craft of reporting and emphasizes newspaper practice as dominant among systems of news dissemination. This edition differs from the second edition in its attention to the environment of journalism today, in the arrangement of content, and in the illustrations. The four major topics covered in the book are the anatomy and environment of news, problems and processes of news gathering, news writing and style, and types of reporting.
