Marine Affairs Education in Hawaii's Future.
Goodwin, Harold L.
This booklet summarizes the principal conclusions of a four day conference held by the University of Hawaii's Curriculum Research and Development Group and Department of Curriculum and Instruction in order to examine the development of a marine curriculum for Hawaiian schools from kindergarten to 12th grade. A major conclusion of the conference was that new marine education opportunities would have to be developed as existing activities are insufficient in scope to serve the whole state nor can they be expanded to serve the entire state. The report includes sections on a rationale for a curriculum, basic considerations in curriculum design, social sciences in marine affairs, the humanities and marine affairs, the teacher and marine affairs, constraints and problems, and a check list for possible action.
