The SOS-Project 23. Social Development in School. Summary and Excerpts.
This report summarized studies and discussions of social development in school, presented in two previous reports in Swedish. In addition to reporting on those two basic works, the report also contains direct excerpts and more detailed summations taking up activities and experiences from a research project, Studies in the Socialization Process in Schools (Project SOS). In this project it was attempted to throw light on some social-psychological and developmental-psychological theories, by using a research strategy directed toward activity. Work on the project was carried out in three districts in Gothenburg. In one, the pupils came mainly from working class homes, in another, mainly from middle class homes. In the third district, neither of these two home backgrounds dominated. The investigations carried out as part of the project collected data from these three districts and also from three more districts, sociologically roughly corresponding to the three original ones. Work was done with the first grade up to and including the ninth grade. The research work described here was paid for by the National Board of Education of Sweden. (Author/JM)
