Advisory Teacher Service in Queensland Primary Schools.
Varley, Peter J.; Cumming, Joy
The aim of this study was to obtain information about how advisory teachers and persons within schools perceive the operation of the Advisory Teacher Service inaugurated in the Queensland State Department of Education in 1970. The service was provided so that advisory teachers would visit primary schools on invitation of the principal and help teachers with new methods and materials, teaching techniques, curriculum interpretation, and application of recent research. Data on the service was obtained from school personnel comprised of principals, deputy principals, senior mistresses, and teachers. Two questionnaires were prepared: one was administered to school personnel; the second was administered to advisory teachers. The purpose was to obtain information on issues where distinct discrepancies might exist between the views expressed by school personnel and advisory teachers. The advisory teacher questionnaire sought information about job satisfaction and ways, if any, in which changes in operation might occur. Data collected from the questionnaires is presented in tabular form following the introduction to the document. Appendixes contain copies of the questionnaires and principal components analyses of advisory teacher role items and reactions to advisory teachers by school personnel. (DMT)
