A Comprehensive Plan for Institutional Staff Development. Final Project Report.

Mount Hood Community College studied existing staff development programs at numerous other institutions, reexamined its own philosophy and staff development programs, analyzed faculty needs, formulated new directions for its faculty, and more closely articulated staff development opportunities with area institutions and agencies. This report details the objectives and outcomes of a study conducted between July, 1975 and June, 1976 to facilitate these events. Among the results of the study were identification of: (1) faculty development needs; (2) part-time faculty need for orientation; (3) other institutions' development programs; (4) community resources; (5) methods by which individual staff members could complete their development plans; and (6) those areas which would benefit from inservice programs. A final objective included preparation of a grant proposal in order to implement staff development programs. A project arising as a consequence of this study will provide for a centralized staff development office, an improved part-time inservice program, business-industry-education teacher exchanges and externships, and development of a staff development system for use by other agencies. Appended are the faculty survey instruments and resultant data, a review of the literature, and pertinent college staff development regulations. (JDS)
