Theory and Practical Application of Information Research Services at Lakeland Community College.
Valvoda, Mary Alice
The focus of this report is an in-depth analysis of the Research Services Office (RSO) at Lakeland Community College, including specialized information services and procedures of the RSO. Research services at Lakeland include but are not limited to: (1) acquisition, centralization, and coordination of internal reports; (2) collection of institutional data and preparation of summary reports; (3) centralization and coordination of academic and administrative information services; and (4) special studies and projects. Lakeland's RSO is user-oriented, emphasizing service, cooperation, and assistance to faculty and staff. The RSO functions as a clearinghouse, sharing reports, professional news items, and educational research materials. To insure the viability of its information service, the RSO seeks to maintain cooperative internal and external relationships. The RSO is an applied paradigm for understanding the process of innovation, dissemination, and knowledge utilization. Four basic files are maintained by RSO to functionally store information processed subsequent to acquisition from numerous sources. A unique cataloging and classifying system insures accurate material identification. A computerized catalog is maintained of the RSO documents collection. Eleven appendices illustrate the RSO cataloging and classifying system, the computerized catalog, the filing system, and various promotional materials. (JDS)
