A Study, Comparison and Evaluation of Instructional Programs at ALA Accredited Graduate Library Schools in the United States and Canada, with Special Attention Focused on Practical Experience or Field Work Provided Within the Curricula.
Tietjen, Mildred C.
A study was undertaken to assess the quality and quantity of practical experience and field work provided in the instructional programs of American Library Association-accredited library schools. Some 62 schools in the United States and Canada were surveyed by mail, and personal visits were made to 13 of the 62. In 65% of the schools some formal practicum or field work was provided; however, only 32% provided practicums outside of school librarianship programs. Descriptions of 13 schools visited are provided in the text, while practicum fieldwork descriptions for all 62 schools are appended. (EMH/LS)
