Governance of the Australian Colleges of Advanced Education.
Barker, L. J., Ed.
This conference, composed of senior administrators and academics, discusses the problems of governance of higher education in Australia. In light of changing demographic factors, a depression in the labor market for graduates, changing social aspirations and the emphasis on life-long education, the attitude of the colleges will have to change, and a new governance model that allows for dynamic change and development across the total educational spectrum will have to be developed. Papers presented explore such problems. Reexamined are Commonwealth/State relations in advanced education, the roles of the Commission on Advanced Education, the State Co-ordinating Authorities and the Colleges themselves, and the governance of the Australian colleges of advanced education. Provided is a framework of current trends and issues in governance. (Author/KE)
