Theatre in India.
Richmond, Farley, Ed.
Journal of South Asian Literature, v10 n2,3,4 Entire Issue Winter, Spring, Summer, 1975
The articles in this volume place special emphasis on significant forms of traditional Indian theatre about which relatively little has been written. They represent, for the most part, the work of relatively young and unknown scholars on the threshold of their careers. Each article was selected for inclusion either because it probed deeply into the composition of a unique theatre form, or because it was innovative and shed light on relatively obscure material or it viewed old data from an entirely different perspective. Several representative Indian plays are included which demonstrate that traditional Indian plays are inseparable from the manner in which they are produced. Consequently, the reader must have at least a superficial knowledge of the theatre form before the merits of the play can be fully appreciated. An annotated bibliography which lists materials primarily in English on Indian drama and theatre is also included. (LL)
