Improving Vocational Education in Corrections: Proceedings of the Workshop for Improving Vocational Education in Correctional Institutions.
Cronin, F. Patrick; And Others
The 71 workshop participants represented vocational and correctional organizations from 41 States, Washington, D.C., and Canada. This report describes the background and proceedings of the workshop and contains the formal presentation papers. As an introduction, the history and background of the project are presented, and a brief description is provided of the preliminary information search and analysis activities, which included surveys of leaders, practitioners, and State agencies and a review and synthesis of the literature. The role of the planning committee is also briefly discussed. The four major topics addressed by the workshop were: how to develop the role of vocational education in correctional institutions, how to meet student needs, how to develop realistic programs, and how to develop cooperative approaches. Short summaries of the major presentations, along with the concerns and comments generated in the small group discussions appear in the report. Appended to the main body are the welcoming presentations, major workshop addresses, other selected addresses and reactions, a summary of the workshop program, lists of presenters and participants, and a bibliography (19 pages) of resources.
