Introduction to Apprenticeship. Unit 1. A Core Curriculum of Related Instruction for Apprentices.
New York State Education Dept., Albany. Bureau of Occupational and Career Curriculum Development.
The document is one of nine units developed to provide relevant instruction to apprentices preparing for a variety of trades. The program provides sufficient flexibility for the development of instruction to meet the specific needs of apprentices with differing backgrounds and expectations. The introductory unit consists of five modules designed as self-contained instructional packages which can be used selectively to meet individual and program needs. The modules cover the following topics related to apprenticeship: the agreement and parties involved in the program, costs and benefits of training, legal aspects, historical background, and how to study effectively. The objectives of each module are expressed in terms of expected terminal student performances, and references are listed. The remainder of each module is presented in a three-column format which correlates content with instructional suggestions and background information. The unit also contains sections on administrative considerations and instructional considerations. (Author/MS)
