Educators have become increasingly aware of the complexity of most environmental problems. This realization has resulted in a recognition that scientific and technological solutions in themselves may be a major means for dealing with our environmental problems; but underlying nearly all environmental problems and solutions are human attitudes and behaviors which are a result of our society's ethics and values. Efforts to develop environmental education programs have called attention to the fact that aesthetic awareness and understanding should form the basis by which human beings interpret these ethics and values that influence behavior affecting environmental quality. The purpose of this publication is to provide a philosophic point of view on aesthetics and the environment and to serve as a resource for incorporation of environmental aesthetics learning experiences into any subject.
