Evaluating Superintendents and School Boards. ERS Report.
Educational Research Service, Arlington, VA.
Procedures and instruments used for evaluating either or both school superintendents and boards of education were solicited from Educational Research Service's subscribing school systems, state associations of school boards, and state associations of school administrators. Sixty-eight school systems sent their formal procedures for evaluating the superintendent; 14 of these reported procedures for the evaluation of the board of education. Six state administrator associations and 14 state school board associations contributed information on recommended evaluation procedures for superintendents and school boards. This report contains a review of the procedures and forms used and includes specific examples of evaluation procedures. Characteristics common to the procedures of the reporting agencies are listed and certain details from some evaluative procedures are noted. Selected evaluation forms and a bibliography are included.
