Research and Development Project in Career Education. Final Report.
North Dakota State Board for Vocational Education, Bismarck.
The 19-page report describes the goals, objectives, activities, accomplishments, recommendations, and conclusions of a two-year project to establish a junior high school career education program. The project was designed to: (1) provide career exploratory experiences through integration of career education into all subjects and visitation of area resources and work sites and (2) assist students in developing a positive self-image and a positive attitude toward work. Program implementation was facilitated through teacher inservice and visits to observe career education programs in other schools. A summer writing team of staff members developed curriculum materials, resource files, and slide-tape presentations. Project outcomes included activities booklets for each major subject area. A third party evaluation report by two administrators from Minot State College is included, and reviews the accomplishments of the project in terms of stated objectives. Teacher and student attitudes are also assessed from analysis of data collected, classroom visits, and conferences. Administrative support was a major factor contributing to the success of the project. Appendixes comprise about half the document and include: a teacher survey of career development concepts, data on the writing team effort, and a staff personnel directory and resource file indexed by name, interest (hobbies), and job (work experience).
