Conference on Career Education in the Elementary School. Final Report and Proceedings (Boston, Massachusetts, April 2-4, 1973).
Olympus Research Corp., Washington, DC.
A training and dissemination conference for State education officials was conducted by the Massachusetts State Department of Education. Every State and territorial department of education was invited to send the person or persons in their State most directly responsible for elementary curriculum. Fifty-two persons, representing 37 states, three U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia, attended. The goal of the conference was to motivate, orient, and prepare elementary curriculum planners and supervisors to assist elementary teachers in the preparation and implementation of career education materials into their classrooms. In addition to speeches and panel discussions, the conference format provided for demonstrations presenting a central theme. This theme then served as a topic for discussion groups in eliciting curriculum ideas. The proceedings include the text of speeches and summary reports of the seven discussion groups. Conference participants agreed to implement at least one specific project within three months of the conference, and appendixes contain the materials received from many of the States. For each State, a policy statement, elementary program descriptions, and participant activities are described. Some States submitted detailed plans for career education at the elementary level. Also appended are the conference agenda and list of participants. (RG)
