Current Issues, Problems, and Concerns in Curriculum Development.

This report summarizes the first phase of work by the National Institute of Education Curriculum Development Task Force and presents several recommendations for Institute action to effect an informed discussion of the central issues in curriculum development. The report contains three sections. Section one contains information on the charge and procedures of the Curriculum Development Task Force and provides a brief history of federal involvement in curriculum development activities. Section two is a presentation and discussion of curriculum development issues, problems, and concerns emerging from task force interviews and readings. Included in this section are questions about the process of curriculum development, present needs in curriculum development, and the roles and relationships among the various sectors in curriculum development. The final section contains the appendixes which include: (1) contributors to the Curriculum Development Task Force report; (2) chronology of steering committee and task force activities; (3) individuals and organizations contacted; (4) interview materials; and (5) a bibliography of documents collected and read.
