Distribution of Grades: 1971-1974.
Kaufman, Barry; Podell, Lawrence
The distribution of grades awarded in the spring at the senior colleges and community colleges of The City University of New York during the period 1971-74 is reported. The data are presented with the aim of providing administrators, department chairmen and other faculty members, especially those concerned with academic and discipline development, with information over time. The statistics were provided by the colleges and then retabulated by the CUNY Office of Program and Policy Research for inclusion in this report. They fail to identify overall trends in the awarding of grades at CUNY. Rather, the granting of grades appears to be the result of the policies, practices, and personnel of the individual colleges and the departments within them. A pattern of grade inflation, noted in recent years at other higher education institutions, is not evident for the colleges of CUNY. (LBH)
