The Contributions of Argumentation to a Rhetoric of Values.
Wenzel, Joseph W.
The author of this paper contends that argumentation can provide the rational framework for a "rhetoric of value evolution," that the study of value-centered argument can clarify the logical and epistemological status of value claims and the reasons supporting them. Stephen Toulmin's solution to the traditional problems concerning the justification of values is reviewed, and a broad outline of an approach that might be taken to advance understanding of the value argument is sketched.
