Quinn, Jeanette; And Others
This book is an actual school year's work, written by three teaming, open classroom teachers in grades one, five, and six. It is designed for teachers of grades k-6 who are working right in the classroom with their students, for school administrators involved in curriculum development, and for parents expecting the best tangible results from an organized educational process. Chapter one focuses on classroom organization and includes scheduling for the first month of school. In chapter two, the establishment of learning sections and areas is discussed and illustrated with schedules of activities. Chapter three contains lesson plans for learning centers. In chapter four, task cards and lesson plans geared for creative dramatization are defined and presented. Chapter five contains programmed lesson plans that are selected by the students based on a full-day, full-week scheduling. Lists of skills and diagnostic tools are presented in chapter six. Chapter seven contains emergency lesson plans for substitute teachers, while the summary containing teacher and student feelings about the year is presented in chapter eight. A bibliography is included. (RC)
