The Study and Teaching of Anthropology Within Academic Institutions: An Annotated Bibliography. Publication No. 76-1.
Dwyer-Shick, Susan
Five hundred and forty-five books and articles, written between 1848 and 1976, which focus on the study or teaching of anthropology within academic institutions are listed in this annotated bibliography. Arranged chronologically, the earliest entries focus on the definition of anthropology as a subject. Overlapping and continuing this concern with terminology and subject matter is the emphasis on the systematic arrangement which could be employed within libraries, museums, textbooks, and course instruction. Later entries focus on the status of anthropology within the curriculum, while entries within the last two decades focus more on the role of the anthropologist as researcher and teacher. In order to facilitate identification of particular works, an author index is also included. (DE)
