Cooperative Education. Final Report.

In order to investigate the feasibility of adding a cooperative education option to the curricular offerings of Moraine Park Technical Institute (MPTI), interviews were conducted with randomly selected representatives of 12 industries and 17 employers in the marketing and merchandising businesses located in the MPTI service area. In addition, instructors and students were surveyed by questionnaire for their reactions to a cooperative education addition to the curriculum. Ninety-six percent of the industry and business representatives favored the implementation of a cooperative education program. Only 3 percent of the faculty and 5 percent of the students surveyed reacted negatively. On the basis of this positive reaction, seven programs were selected for a pilot study of cooperative education. This document presents suggested curricula for the programs, provides a list of the businesses which might particpate, and discusses policy changes which would have to be made to adjust the work load of the coordinating teachers. Complete survey information is included, and several of the comments of the respondents are provided. (Author/NHM)
