The Museum Computer Network (MCN) was formed to convert all the systematic information in museum files and archives from written to machine-readable form. The principles, practice, membership, computer programs, history, and organization of MCN are described in an introductory article. Following this is a bibliography of reference to MCN and to GRIPHOS, the computer program for museum information. The document concludes with an article by David Vance, president of MCN entitled "The Unfinished Story of the Museum Computer Network." In this article he traces the history of MCN and describes development of new concepts in classifying and recording museum information. Membership, financial aspects, and plans for the future of MCN are summarized. (CH)
