Newby, John M; Kline, George
This study, conducted by the Office of Institutional Research began with an examination of the incident of attrition among first-time freshmen who enrolled in the College during the fall semesters of the years 1967-72. Included in this document is: (1) attrition rates for the period covering 1967 to 1972; (2) a profile of the withdrawing Spring Arbor College student; and (3) student perceptions of attrition. Some conclusions are: (1) graduation within eight consecutive semesters was decreasing; (2) attrition consistently decreased during the student's first semester and increased during the student's second semester; (3) attrition among female students was slightly greater than among male students; (4) students whose academic records were not totally acceptable had a greater tendency to withdraw than to graduate; (5) religious preferences had some bearing on persistence.
