Management Operations in Education.
Hentschke, Guilbert C.
This book is intended to acquaint students and professionals in educational management with those activities in educational organizations requiring technical, business-related competence, and with selected management tools that aid in the analysis of those activities. Part 1, Fiscal Systems, includes discussions of fund accounting, direct costing, cost accounting, cash flow concepts, investment, debt management, and fixed and risk management. Part 2, Logistical Systems, is devoted to supply management, maintenance and operation, transportation, and food service. Part 3, Allocation Systems, discusses structuring and organizing budgeting processes, classroom scheduling, intra- and interdisctict allocation formulas, and linear progamming. Part 4, Planning Systems, deals largely with methodologies for forecasting student enrollments and future resource demands. Part 5, Information Systems, examines processes of developing and evaluating information systems. Although most of the examples used in the book are from elementary-secondary education, much of the material applies equally to postsecondary educational organizations. Questions for review and discussion, as well as references and related readings, are provided at the end of each chapter. (Author)
