Sociocultural and Psychological Factors of the Working Mother, Particularly Mothers of Preschool Age Children: The Resulting Problems and Implications for the Family, Community and Psychological Services.
Grosscup, Sally J. T.
This paper reviews the research on sociocultural and psychological factors as they relate to the working mother and makes some suggestions as to how the family, community, and psychological services can assist the working mother in dealing with the problems peculiar to her situation. It is only recently that women have commenced leaving the home to work because of personal desires rather than economic need. As a result, these working women find themselves in the position of challenging the values of their family, community, and self. These women need support, understanding, and assistance during this period of change. In addition to the need for family and community support and psychological services to aid these women, there is a need for research in determining the influences and effects of the mother's working.
