National Assessment of Clinical Education of Allied Health Manpower: Volume I: Final Report.

The document is the first volume of a four-part report of a study conducted to evaluate and assess the national state of clinical education and training of allied health manpower. The final report briefly reviews the development of education for allied health manpower, the present status of manpower requirements, the nature of clinical education, and the rationales leading to a national assessment of clinical education. It also discusses some generic considerations in allied health clinical education with a discussion of their present issues and problems and suggestions for recommended actions to solve these problems. These areas are: (1) content of clinical education, (2) credentialing in clinical education, (3) the management of clinical education, (4) requirements for human and physical resources, (5) students and clinical education, and (6) financing clinical education. Suggestions for cooperation among educational institutions; health care institutions; professional associations; and the Federal, State, and local governments are discussed in relation to the improvement of clinical education. A list of task force members and a summary of the report's recommendations are included. (Author/EC)
