In Chapter 1, The Concept of Career Education, the author presents a broad discussion of career education, its operational processes, results of a questionnaire from 41 States and territories, and various agencies. Chapter 2, Purposes and Goals of Career Education (David L. Jesser and Nancy M. Pinson), presents a broad discussion of purposes, goals, curriculum, instruction, vocational skills development, and various components of career education programs. Chapter 3, The Development and Use of Curriculum Materials for Career Education (David L. Jesser and Linda Keilholts), examines curriculum materials development, with various projects and samples. Chapter 4, Models, Elements, and Characteristics of Career Education (David L. Jesser and Byron Vanier), presents a variety of representative models, and various program components. Chapter 5, Career Education and the State Education Agency (David L. Jesser and E. Niel Carey), discusses the role of the State education agency, strategies, and implications. An afterward, as well as chapter prefaces, are included. It is stated that the document should serve as a valuable reference for chief State school officers and their staffs. (LH)
