School-Based Job Placement Service Model. Final Report.
Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School, Bloomsburg, PA.
A school-based job placement service model, designed to help seniors find suitable employment, has been operational at the Columbia-Montour Area Vocational-Technical School since April 1974. The final report discusses the activities of the model since its inception, with emphasis on the period from July 1, 1974 to June 30, 1975 (Phase 3). Discussion of program analysis includes: (1) the importance of facilities, administration support, and cooperation with industry; (2) placement versus the cooperative work system; (3) relationship with unions and the bureau of employment security; (4) employment trends; (5) use of interview checklists, placement advertisements, and a word processing machine; (6) preparation activities (resumes and interviewing techniques); and (7) need for curriculum changes. Major recommendations include: (1) increased awareness of employment opportunities for students in tenth and eleventh grades; (2) the center should be open all year and in the evenings to accommodate adults in the community; (3) evaluation is important and should take place in mid year, not in the spring when placement activity is highest; and (4) the placement specialist should become involved in management clubs and personnel organizations. The appendix includes sample materials, followup information on graduates, and statistical data. (RG)
