The Somerton Story: Part 4. A Progress Report on the Somerton Demonstration School for Migrant Child Education.

Since Somerton first became a demonstration school for migrant child education in 1967, three versions of the "The Somerton Story" have been prepared by consultants and the Somerton administration. However, these publications lacked the students' viewpoint on the new approaches to educating children. Therefore, this version was written by the students themselves. One of the 8th grade classes planned the entire issue. They wrote most of the articles and collected the rest from other classrooms; they planned and ordered the pictures. No adult editing was done, although some of the articles were rewritten several times in an attempt to reduce the number of errors. The articles reflect the students' attitudes toward the: (1) school; (2) subjects; (3) personnel; (4) classes--i.e., physical education, art, home economics, shop, and audio-visual; (5) math learning center; (6) library; and (7) Adventures in Growth Program.
