Provided are the proceedings of the Special Study Institute conference on Fostering Positive attitudes Toward the Handicapped in School Settings sponsored by the Division for Handicapped Children of the New York State Education Department. Presentations include the following topics: rationale for the conference (by Samuel Wallach); a review of theory and research on reactions to the handicapped (by Steven A. Richardson); television and attitudes toward the handicapped (by Robert M Liebert); the development of receptivity toward labeled children (by Ellen B. Barnes); supporting teachers for change (by Peter Knoblock); some curricular experiences for children (by Elizabeth Pieper); a curriculum fostering positive attitudes toward the handicapped (by Shirley Cohen); and the handicapped in children's literature (by Barbara H. Baskin). Reports from the area planning groups are summarized; and appendixed are results of an evaluation of the Special Study Institute, addresses of participants, a selected bibliography of professional references and children's literature (117 entries), and a selected bibliography of multimedia materials (34 entries).
