Separate chapters cover the recruitment needs and characteristics of the independent students; the facilities, locations, equipment, and materials of the five participating branch libraries; the training and problems of the librarians, and the demands made upon them by the ISP; the study guides, reading lists, and other materials of the project; the participation and cooperation of local colleges and universities; and an evaluation of the project, including some possibilities for the future. Appendixes contain the proposal and two-year budget, publicity and recruitment items, a paper on how to study independently, and a study guide and reading list for one course in Afro-American history.
