The field tested instructional unit was designed to help fifth graders understand principles related to economics. Lesson topics are: supply and demand, items that maintain a high value, seasonal tourist attractions, seasonal and fluctuating products, principles of budgeting, saving money, and investment possibilities. An introduction for the instructor planning to teach the unit includes a unit content/strategy profile and a unit resource profile. The unit takes approximately seven hours and includes a large and small group and individual activities. The seven lessons are presented under the headings of concept, performance objectives, estimated time, new vocabulary introduced, resources required, instructor preparation tasks, instructional procedures (introduction, tasks, summary), assessment procedures and tools, and worksheets.
