1974 Report on the Career Education Effort in Iowa.
Iowa State Career Education Advisory Council, Des Moines.
The State of Iowa Advisory Council on Career Education has elected to investigate each year one specific component or element of vocational and career education in the State, rather than undertake a comprehensive review. The topic of the 1974 report is cooperative work-study programs in the State. The Council collected information and observations by visiting 12 school systems in various sectors of the State, ranging in size from large to small, located in metropolitan, suburban, and rural communities, and including both schools that do offer and that do not offer cooperative programs. The council conversed with students, teachers, and administrators; data were also collected by the Council staff, and reviewed by the Council members for purposes of verifying or rejecting field observations. The report addresses itself to three major questions: (1) How valid and appropriate is the State plan for career education? (2) How effectively are the needs of the people of Iowa being served? (3) To what extent have the recommendations contained in the Council's 1973 report been implemented? Appended to the report are 80 pages of data on which the recommendations were based, including graphs, maps, tables, supplementary papers, and a summary of information gleaned from the field visits.
