Guide for Planning K-6 Physical Education Programs.

This program planning guide for physical education in New York State Schools, grades K-6, is based on making the student fully aware of cultural, vocational, and aesthetic opportunities so the student can make constructive life decisions. The stated program goals are (a) mastery of communication and reasoning skills; (b) ability to sustain lifetime learning to adapt to change (c) understanding human relations; (d) competence in developing values; (e) knowledge of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences; (f) occupational competence; (g) knowledge of culture, self-renewal, creativity, and recreation; (h) understanding citizenship; (i) knowledge of the environment; and (j) ability to maintain one's mental, physical, and emotional health. The program guide discusses recommended steps for achieving these goals, including (a) planning for curriculum development, (b) developing programs goals for physical education, (c) designing the program, (d) assessment, (e) curricular structures, (f) content designs, (g) planning processes, (h) instruction, (i) organization, (j) decision making processes, (k) teaching strategies, (l) special programs for handicapped children, (m) facilities, and (n) evaluation processes.
