Planning College Geography Facilities: Guidelines for Space and Equipment.
Stoddard, Robert H.
This publication is written as a guide for evaluating and planning the space and equipment available for geographic education in an undergraduate college. The forces of educational change in both the expansion of knowledge and the utilization and creation of tools exert tremendous pressure on the physical facilities of a college campus. Proper planning of space utilization is essential if the physical facilities are to maximize their support of the educational program. The first chapter deals with the special space and equipment needed for geographic education and the assessment of these needs as they apply to individual situations. The secod chapter summarizes planning procedures and provides guidelines for estimating the total space needs for geography facilities. The third chapter concerns general decisions about space and equipment and the following chapter deals with specific recommendations for geography. Recommendations are made, not as ideal situations but, rather, as possibilities and alternatives to serve as guidelines for planning space utilization. Sources of information and a bibliography conclude the document. (Author/JR)
